Easy & Spicy Indian Chicken Gravy Recipe

In the early 1500s, the royal Hindu cooks of Emperor Akbar introduced the recipe of Murg Musallam,  a chicken dish. It is believed that this was the first recorded recipe of any chicken dish.

The recipe of chicken gravy, on the other hand, has no definite inventor. The recipe evolved rather than it was invented. The credit of this dish undoubtedly goes to the Indian Subcontinent

The present recipe shows the preparation of chicken gravy

Chicken Gravy Recipe ingredients

1 800 grams chicken

2. Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

3 Coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon

4 cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon

5 Sugar 1/2 teaspoon

6 Kashmiri red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

7 Ginger garlic paste 1.5 tablespoon

8 Turmeric powder 1 tablespoon

9 Chicken Masala 1 teaspoon

10 Salt as per taste

11 Curd 2 tablespoons

12 Garam Masala  (2 small cardamoms, 4 cloves, a small piece of cinnamon, 1 bay leave )

13 onions 2 pieces

14 Tomato 2 pieces ( king Size)

15 Refined oil 50 grams

Chicken Gravy Preparation

Step 1: Firstly, take 800 grams of chicken in a bowl and clean it with fresh water. Then, add 1/3 teaspoon turmeric powder, red chilli powder (few), cumin powder (few), 1 tablespoon refined oil, and smear the chicken with all the ingredients. Leave it for 15 minutes


Step 2: In order to cook chicken gravy take a Kadai  (nonstick cookware) and pour refined oil  ( few) and put the flame of the gas oven in medium heat and as a result the oil will get warm. As soon as the oil gets warmadd garam masala. Then, fry these ingredients for a couple of minutes. Cardamom should be added crushing it slightly

Now add sliced onions and fry until its colour changes to golden brown

Pour the garlic and ginger paste into the kadai and then fry it for 30 seconds

Now it is time to add sliced tomatoes in it. Stir it for a couple of minutes again

Now add the remaining turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and mix them thoroughly

You have to add little water to keep paste thick and moist. Without water, the mixture will get dry

Stir the mixture for 3 to 4 minutes

Step 3:   Thirdly, as you have prepared base of the gravy add chicken in the kadai

Keep the flame of the gas in medium heat

Stir the mixture with the chicken for 2 minutes and cover it with a lid . Add salt as per your taste

Uncover the lid and stir it again. Add water (according to requirement) time to time and again cover it with the lid for 2 minutes

Keep the flame of the gas oven in low to medium heat

Step 4: Uncover the lid and stir it again. While stirring add curd, sugar. The process of stirring should not be stopped

Keep the flame of the gas oven in medium heat

Cook the chicken for 8 minutes and add Lukewarm water.

Cover it with the lid and lower the flame of the gas oven. Let it cook for 15 minutes

Now turn the flame of the gas oven in medium heat and uncover the lid to add chicken masala in it. A sweet and delicious smell will come out

Turn off the gas oven and cover the kadai with the lid for 1 minute

Chicken gravy is ready. Try it with naan, parathas, bread, or rice
